A little background to the French Colonial Series...
History is a fascinating subject... so entrancing that many authors and screenwriters cannot resist exercising their creative talents to make that history come alive... to flesh it out with details that make it more tangible and real to us. Without the efforts of such authors and directors history would be a subject entirely of dry books and dates and battles.
So if you happens to be a coinmaker and a particular place and time in history interests you... it would seem natural to use the creative talents and tools you have available to make that history come alive.
Thus... the French Colonial Series from Shire Post! The idea is to create a coin that might-have-been issued for several of the early colonies in North America. As it happened, no such coins were issued in real-life... but had things gone a little differently... they might have been! We choose significant dates to commemmorate, and places that hopefully still elicit some interest. This is a new kind of comemmorative coin... done in the contemporary style of the period and culture. We realize that this is a new way to honor historical events, but we have seen people respond to these items with surprise and delight.
