Shire Shilling - THE SHIRE™ - .999 pure silver
THE SHIRE™ Silver Shilling
One Shilling from The Shire struck in 1/8 troy ounce of .999 pure silver. This coin is available in four possible trees: pine, elm, willow, and oak. Text is inscribed in Tengwar.
This coin from the world of J. R. R. Tolkien is struck from solid .999 silver, measures 2.4 cm in diameter, and weighs 5 grams, or 1/8 of a troy ounce. Coin artwork and engraving by Greg Franck-Weiby.
The coin is treated to look as if it has been handled within its world. This process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science. Coloring and patinas will vary. No two coins are exactly the same! Coins are struck one at a time in the USA using antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. A colorful description is included with history, translations, and facts about the coins.

I love all the Middle Earth coins from SPM, but the Shire series especially shows deep consistency of a culture across the range of denominations, like well-designed coinage from real-world nations does. The applied wear treatment is pleasing. The Shilling is a proud addition to my Shire showcase!
I ordered a silver Gondor crown, a copper raven penny of New Dale, and a solid silver Shire Shilling (pine of S.R. 1407), and I am incredibly pleased with all three coins. Of the three, I am particularly partial to the shilling. The gentle weathering really makes it feel like it has traveled in a few hobbit pockets in its day, but the design is still so crisp that I can almost count the pine needles. Stunning work. I am so pleased with my order.
Another nice coin to add to my collection.
Finally, a private mint that does LOTRs coins and with amazing quality, I might add.
Great coins from a great company.
