Vegvisir Norse Compass Bronze and Leather Necklace
The Vegvísir Guides the Way Through the Storm
"...if this sign is carried, one will never lose one's way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known."The Vegvísir, or Norse compass, is an Icelandic magical stave, which, according to the Huld manuscript, protects one from losing their way in bad weather. The vikings used the word "hafvilla" or "bewildered" which means to have no sense of direction or be lost at sea. We created this pendant to help guide us through modern moments of hafvilla.
Encircling the Vegvísir is the runic transliteration of the Icelandic phrase, "Ég stoppar ekki Þegar Þreyttur, ég stoppar Þegar ég er búinn", which translates to, "I do not stop when tired, I stop when done."
The coin is struck with an incuse design, in which the letters are lowered rather than raised. This way the lettering will stay dark even if the coin is carried daily. The coin is double sided with the same design on both sides.
This Vegvísir Norse Compass Necklace is struck from solid bronze, measures 3.3 cm in diameter, and weighs about 12 grams. Includes a 30" leather cord. Coin artwork by Woody Maringer.
The product is treated to look as if it has been handled and circulated. This process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science, coloring and patinas will vary. No two are exactly the same! Coins are struck one at a time in the USA using antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. A colorful description is included with history and facts about the coin.

ok so first of all the packaging was too nice. TOO NICE!
Once you manage to get past that, the actual products were far better than I anticipated.
I carry them with me everyday and I am most content with them.
made me a die hard fan
I wear this when I’m on the road. It is beautiful and top tier craftsmanship. The leather (chain) is comfortable and the coin sits comfortably on my chest. So comfortable in fact that I tend to forget it’s there. MUST BUY.
I wrote Shire Mint three times requesting help and never heard back from ANY one. My heart was sinking and my belly sick thinking the company was just a scam and I was scared and gravely disappointed and
ready to call American Express and begin a refund report. I finally emailed someone at Shire Mint from a different email sent to me and got someone’s attention. My nephew lives in North Vancouver BC and I read the confirmation email that simply showed the package had crossed the boarder but never confirmed delivery to his house. Some one at SM later offered a refund or the option to resend.
I choose to have SM resend the gift order It was essential that the gift arrive before Josh’s 16th birthday on 2/16/21 and I ordered it a month or so ahead. My nephew is holding onto life and on the edge of dying. This gift was one last gift from my heart to his that I could give since I couldn’t cross the Canadian boarder due to COVID. As yet, I’ve not heard anything from SM, on the progress of the reorder. Can you, whom ever is reading this, please check on the second package and its tracking and get back to me as to the status?
I’d greatly appreciate it, thank you.
Since I purchased this I have not got lost , won every battle and it may have kept me from getting covid
Seriously though. I love this necklace. I love history, old world cultures, and mythology (especially of the Norse variety), so this pendant caught my eye instantly. I love ALL of the beautiful work from Shire Post Mint, but this one feels like it was made for me.
