Treasure of the Sun

"I take 'em from the Hoard. You just have to hold it in your mind and you can take whatever you want from it. The sun's treasure. You can keep whatever's precious to you."
–Mad Sweeney to Shadow Moon

This coin seems to possess power beyond mortal understanding. It looks and feels just like an authentic celtic gold piece, and is mistakenly given to Shadow Moon by the leprechaun Mad Sweeney after a brutal fight between the two at Jack’s Crocodile Bar.
  • Solid brass coin
  • .9" (23mm) diameter
  • 9 grams weight
  • Struck on a spherical blank to create an irregular cracked edge. Due to the nature of this process, edges will vary.
  • Design approved by Neil Gaiman

Coin design by Helen Maringer and Shea Higgins, engraved by Woody Maringer. Learn more about our artists.

Shire Post Mint went through extensive research to infuse this coin design with ancient lore and meaningful symbology. The sun face is based on depictions of the Celtic god Belenus. The mistletoe on the bottom right is a nod to Baldr, the Norse sun god who was killed with mistletoe. The horse and wheel together call Belenus. The other surrounding elements are the sun, stars, and moon as depicted on ancient Celtic coins.

We attempt to replicate the look and feel of an ancient coin by using historically significant symbols, extending the design to the edge of the coin, engraving the design by hand, using a spherical blank that cracks during striking, and antiquing the coin. We hope you love the final product as much as we do.

Good author's interpretation of the coin

The coin is not a reconstruction of a coin from the series, but is therefore better.

Good idea with a coin making technique.

Many people criticize the coin for its size, but in vain. The size of the coin corresponds to the size of the real gold coins of the time. For comparison, I attach a photo along with photographs of the gold coins of the Russian Empire.

If the coin were made of gold, it would be perfect. Its only drawback is metal, it gets dirty easily and has its own smell and taste.

P.S. I'm sorry for my English.

Fantastic Craftsmanship

As a huge fan of the series American Gods this was a must buy purchase. The coin is wonderfully made and I will most likely to adding a few more to my collection to use as count tokens. The relief of the design is amazing and really acts to the impact of the piece.

A Brilliant and Magical Item

This coin is absolutely gorgeous. So well designed and such a solid feel to it. The packaging, with wax seal, is equally stunning. Another triumph from Shire Post Mint.
I would love to see an issue of this coin in a larger size, the same diameter as the Shadow Moon Silver Dollar.
