Robert The Usurper

King Robert I Baratheon took the Iron Throne from Aerys II Targaryen, the Mad King, in the war that would be named Robert's Rebellion. He reigned for 15 years next to his wife Cersei. Robert is depicted bare-headed as this coin was issued during the rebellion before he was crowned king. His derision for "counting coppers" likely resulted in the need for massive numbers of these coins to finance the war. The seven-pointed star on the reverse symbolizes the Faith of the Seven, the dominant religion, and also represents the denomination of the coin for the illiterate: seven copper Stars are worth one silver Stag.

  • Solid copper, 9.2 grams

Counting Coppers

It’s a nice size coin. Roughy the size of a quarter and slightly heavier. The head and the star are prominent. Good lettering. Overall a really nice coin. I love it!

This is a very hefty coin for it's size. Has a great feel in the hand. The design is very attractive and makes a lovely package overall.
