The Hobbit™ Set #1 - The Shire™ Set of Four Coins
What Does a Hobbit Have in His Pockets?
This set of pure copper coins contains a heavy SHIRE™ Thrup'ny, Shire Penny, Shire Haypenny, and a tiny Shire Farthing. Coin text is inscribed in Tengwar. The coins feature trees including plum, pine, elm, willow, and oak.
The coins in this set from the world of J. R. R. Tolkien are struck from solid copper, measure 1 to 2.2 cm in diameter, and weigh .5 to 7 grams. Coin artwork by Greg Franck-Weiby.
The set contains coins treated to look as if they have been handled and circulated within their world. This process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science. Coloring and patinas will vary. No two sets are exactly the same! Coins are struck one at a time in the USA using antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. A colorful description is included with history, translations, and facts about the coins.

These coins are really well designed and made. They feel like historic coins. I really enjoy owning these little bits of Middle Earth.
The photos do the article justice, these are amazingly well made! I know as they make room for themselves in my pouch, they will pick up even more of the patina that comes from being well handled over time. I salute the quality of the Shire mints!
I love that each of these four coins are unique in size and appearance, but are still obviously Shire coins, as each one has a tree engraved on it somewhere. These coins look like real coins from a real place, as if someone just reached into their pocket and pulled them out! I'm ready to get my shop on in the Shire!!
