The Hobbit™ Set #5 - The Shire Four Pennies
THE SHIRE™ Pennies
Four Pennies in pure copper from The Shire. Each denomination of Shire coinage has 4 variations featuring different trees. This four tree group contains all four possible trees: pine, elm, willow, and oak. The most common coin found in the pocket of a fairly well-to-do Hobbit, it features a tree and the words “One Penny of the Shire, Abode of the Hobbits.” On the reverse, the four directions and quarters of The Shire and “Shire Year,” the date, and “Michel Delving,” the de facto capital of The Shire. Coin text is inscribed in Tengwar.
The coins in this set from the world of J. R. R. Tolkien are struck from solid copper, measure 2.1 cm in diameter, and weigh 2.8 grams. Coin artwork by Greg Franck-Weiby.
The set contains coins treated to look as if they have been handled and circulated within their world. This process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science. Coloring and patinas will vary. No two sets are exactly the same! Coins are struck one at a time in the USA using antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. A colorful description is included with history, translations, and facts about the coins.

absolutely love them
Longtime buyer — These coins are perfect, included as part of a project for my kids; they added an unrivaled degree of authenticity. Will definitely purchase from Shire Post Mint again.
Very fun, thank you!
These are such incredible little pieces of work, and the presentation/packaging goes above and beyond. I love how each one in the set I got has a slightly different patina.
As with the Farthing and Haypenny sets, the detail work on these coins is top-notch. Definitely a needed part of a Tolkien fan's collection.
