Dorrin Copper of the Isle of Recluce
The Isle of Recluce
The design is based upon the world of the Saga of Recluce novels by Leland E. Modesitt Jr. In the tenth book of the series, The Magic Engineer, we meet the black mage and smith Dorrin whose order magic and innate engineering abilities lead to many adventures, even bringing the Isle of Recluce and the land of Candar to the brink of war, and finally to the first truce between the two lands. The obverse of the coin features an image of Dorrin at work, while the reverse depicts his first fighting ship, the Black Hammer, the ship that established the Isle of Recluce as a true world power and allowed the exiled Dorrin to return home in triumph. Many years later the Council of Recluce issued the Dorrin Copper in his honor.
This Dorrin Copper of the Isle of Recluce from the world of L. E. Modesitt, Jr. is struck from solid copper, measures 3.5 cm in diameter, and weighs about 13 grams. Coin artwork by Gary Carlisle.
The product is treated to look as if it has been handled and circulated. This process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science, coloring and patinas will vary. No two are exactly the same! Coins are struck one at a time in the USA using antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. A colorful description is included with history and facts about the coin.
