Silver GONDOR™ Double Crown

$100.00

THE RETURN OF THE KING

A Double Thick Silver Coronation Coin

This coronation coin was minted in Gondor to celebrate the coronation of Aragorn™ as King Elessar Telcontar. He is shown on the obverse riding a horse and holding a flag with the White Tree of Gondor. Surrounding Aragorn, inscribed in Tengwar: Elessar, Arwen, Gondor. The coin is a celebration of Aragorn’s coronation as well as his marriage to the Elf Arwen. On the reverse are brothers Isildur and Anárion holding a shield featuring the White Tree. They stand on Andúril (Flame of the West in Quenya), Aragorn’s sword forged from the shards of Narsil. Below it are the Sevens Stones Palantíri and the words, King Star and Year One. Above the brothers are the seven stars of the House of Elendil.

This large silver coin was struck in the early years of Aragorn's rule when the need for a larger denomination Double Crown arose. More than twice as thick as a standard Crown, this coin was struck from one full troy ounce of .999 pure silver with a reeded edge to prevent debasement.

  • Solid .999 silver, 34 grams (1 Troy Oz)

  • 3.2 cm diameter

The (double) crown of my collection!

At one troy ounce of .999 pure silver, this impressively weighty coin is superb in its fine detail - from obverse face featuring Aragorn astride a mount, surrounded by Tengwar text that reads: Elessar, Arwen, Gondor to the reverse showing Isildur & Anárion. The authentic text gives the coin the appearance and feel of it being genuinely minted in Gondor to celebrate the King’s coronation. As with the majority of Shirepost coins, this one came with a card detailing the coin and the Middle-earth history behind its striking adding the the in-world authenticity of this beautiful piece. The value of the coin is undeniable in pure silver, the craftsmanship notwithstanding. I do not regret spending a little more on this coin as it makes a remarkable centrepiece of my collection! Thank you Shirepost!

Quality control problems

The coin was unevenly pressed leading to different thicknesses. Also, there was no reeded edge. My emails concerning the foregoing issues went unanswered. Usually I've been satisfied with Shire Post Mint, but this was quite disappointing.

Hi Jeffrey,
I'm sorry that this coin did not meet your expectations. Due to our process and the design of this particular coin, the edges are different thicknesses. Unfortunately, that is unavoidable. We will take note of the edge and make an effort to update any photos and descriptions whenever those changes happen. If you would like to exchange your coin, you can email support@shirepost.com.
