Libra, the seventh sign in the Zodiac, is associated with the constellation, its Latin name translating to “weighing scales”. This symbol in Babylonian astronomy was identified with the sun god Shamash, the patron of justice and truth to whom the scales were held sacred. The Greek goddess of justice and fair judgment, Dike, is often depicted carrying a balancing scale and wearing a laurel wreath, therefore she is also often associated with the constellation Libra.
People born from September 23rd-October 23rd are considered to have Libra as their ‘Sun sign’ - the part of an astrological chart that determines ego, identity, the character one plays in life. ‘Moon sign’ relates to the subconscious, intuition, inner world, and emotional self.
The sign of Libra is ruled by the planet Venus and the element of air. Those with this Sun sign are often thought of as especially diplomatic, friendly and gracious individuals. Those with a Libra Moon are often thought of as especially harmony seeking, idealistic, and communicative individuals.
