Vegvisir Wayfinder Coin - Silver

The Vegvísir Guides the Way Through the Storm

  • Solid .999 Fine Silver, 1 Troy oz

  • 3.24 cm diameter

"...if this sign is carried, one will never lose one's way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known."
—Huld Manuscript

The Vegvísir, or Norse compass translating to "wayseer", is an Icelandic magical stave, which, according to the Huld manuscript, protects one from losing their way in bad weather. The vikings used the word "hafvilla" or "bewildered" which means to have no sense of direction or be lost at sea. We created this coin to help guide us through modern moments of hafvilla.

This wayfinder will help guide the holder through the rough journey of life. Use it to find the correct path to travel.

Encircling the Vegvísir is the runic transliteration of the Icelandic phrase, "Ég stoppar ekki Þegar Þreyttur, ég stoppar Þegar ég er búinn", which translates to, "I do not stop when tired, I stop when done."

The solid bronze or silver coin is struck with an incuse design, in which the letters are lowered rather than raised. This way the lettering will stay dark even if the coin is carried daily.

Nice EDC Reminder Coin

The coin was much thicker than I was expecting.
I think it is as thick, or thicker than an Eisenhower Dollar, but has the diameter closer to a half dollar.

The detail on the imprint is very nice.

Not much else to say, mostly posting this review so I can include some pictures.

[Note: the bronze version appears to be a little thicker than the Silver version.]

Definitely pure silver

Fast shipping. Symbols are clean and clear. Nice "antique" look without appearing damaged. Took to a jeweler to use XRF machine and can confirm it is pure silver. It is exactly how it is described on thier site. I definitely recommend this coin!

Thanks for your support! We take pride in our patinas :D

A hefty reminder

My vegvisir coin has ridden in my pocket ever since it was received. It’s a nice hefty reminder that I can make it home through any storm (physical or spiritual). To give it a little extra power-up, I left it outside on a paving stone during the Nov. 19, 2021 full-moon lunar eclipse. I thought it was fitting for a coin made of pure silver.

AMAZING. That coin must be FULL of power

Beautiful Coin

Proof-shiny is fine for some coins, but this coin has character. It isn't the first coin I've bought from Shire Post, and it certainly won't be the last.

Each order comes packed with a handwritten envelope sealed with wax straight from Shire Post Mint! Unless changed, we will hand write the name of the person listed in the Shipping Address.

If ordering a gift or if you'd like to customize your handwritten name, please include the recipient's name in the Personalization Options field as you complete your order.

One envelope is included in your order, if you would like to purchase additional handwritten Gift Envelopes, you can find them here.

Shire Post Mint coins are struck one at a time in West Fork, Arkansas, USA using solid metals, hand-engraved designs, antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. For antiqued coins, the coloring/patina process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science so coins will vary slightly. Our unique packaging includes a description of each coin and translations if applicable.
