House Greyjoy Set of Four Coins
We Do Not Sow
Great House Greyjoy of Pyke is an ancient house from the harsh Iron Islands. The coins feature unique depictions of the Greyjoys as kings of the Iron Islands and krakens, the sigil of their house. The Iron Islanders follow the old ways and use what has been taken by force, so these coins were probably minted on top of other Westerosi coinage that was stolen during a raid.
Includes:
Balon Greyjoy Copper Star
Balon Greyjoy, father of Theon and Asha, declared himself King of the Iron Islands during the War of the Five Kings. As an Iron Islander, Balon followed the Old Ways of taking property by force, so this coin was probably minted on top old coinage raided from the mainland. This heavy copper coin features a youthful Balon sporting a breastplate with the Kraken sigil of House Greyjoy. On the reverse is a reaver of the Iron Fleet that Balon constructed.Quellon Greyjoy Half-Penny
Quellon Greyjoy was the Lord of the Iron Islands before his son, Balon. Quellon has been considered one of the wisest of the Greyjoys. He sought to bring reform to the Iron Islands by forbidding salt wives, reaving, and mainland marriages.Balon Greyjoy Penny
This coin features a crowned Balon Greyjoy, claiming kingship, holding an axe and a great pearl, symbolizing his mastery over the sea. The reverse has the kraken sigil of House Greyjoy. A Penny is worth 1/8 of a Star.Quellon Greyjoy Half-Dragon
Convinced by his sons to rebel against House Targaryen, Quellon died at sea in the battle at the Mander’s mouth against the Shield Islands. His titles were passed on to his son Balon, who removed most of Quellon’s reforms in his desire to return to the Old Way. Quellon is shown with a sword and crown as self-proclaimed King of the Iron Islands. The coins in this set from the world of George R. R.
