Liberty and justice for all.

July 4th, 2026 marks a significant chapter in America’s storied past. While this story reaches further back and runs much deeper than the existence of the United States, America’s 250th Anniversary provides us with an important opportunity to come together and reflect on the idea of “liberty and justice for all”.

The inspiration for this memento comes from the sonnet penned by activist and writer Emma Lazarus in 1883, “The New Colossus”. Now immortalized in bronze beneath the Statue of Liberty, this poem invites us to think about the immigrant experience, and the part that America may choose to play in welcoming anyone seeking hope beneath the Mother of Exile’s shining torch.

On the obverse of our coin, the goddess Justitia stands tall and strong - wielding her scales and sword. The reverse depicts Lady Liberty's torch held high, its weight supported by every person who forms the beautifully diverse landscape of America’s redwood forests, Gulf Stream waters, and diamond deserts. Lifting this lamp beside the golden door is a great responsibility - one we must carry together.
