A shining moon of Rivendell

  • 6.3 grams of solid nickel-silver
  • 1.25 in (3.17 cm) diameter at the longest points.

This unique crescent moon coin comes from Rivendell (Imladris in Sindarin), during the rule of Elrond™. It depicts the Rivendell valley, flanked by waterfalls, containing the ancient trees of silver and gold and the three Silmarils, represented as stars.

On the reverse, the Sindarin text inscribed in Tengwar reads, “Elrond Halfelven, Lord of Rivendell and of the Last Homely House East of the Sea, 2941”. TA 2941 is the year that Thorin Oakenshield™ and company meet Elrond at Rivendell before continuing on to The Lonely Mountain.

The coins are struck in varying metals to distinguish their denominations. The Copper Moon is the smallest denomination, followed by the Silver Moon, and the Golden Moon. The Mithril Moon is the largest denomination, worth ten times as much as the Golden Moon.

Coin artwork designed by Dylan Craig and engraved by Woody Maringer.

You've done Elrond proud...

This is a beautiful crescent moon (mine is pierced to be worn as a necklace, so it also included a silver chain) with, as the description says, a depiction of Rivendell valley, the Two Trees and the Silmarils. The obverse has lovely Tengwar script. My one and only complaint (and it's not SP fault; it's MINE) is that the script, after my wearing for about a year, is getting faint. If I say "speak friend, and enter" do you suppose it will come back? Maybe......... I will also review here other coins I have from SP....why not a separate review for each, you ask? Well, because I bought these, not in the Current Age, but in the last iteration of the Post....(but if Will wants a review on each, separately, he has but to ask). I have purchased the Elvish Leaf of Spring, the Iron Mumak, a "Hope" coin which i don't believe is offered any longer, a "bachelor" coin depicting Frodo as the Shire's best catch (also not offered any longer, to my knowledge), and a Shire Four Farthing set. I can't really speak highly enough about the care and quality of these items; they are enough to curl and then uncurl your toe-hairs. I bought the 'leaf' and 'mumak' as necklaces, and the leaf, with its script, suffers from the same problem as the Rivendell moon: because of the fineness of the script, it fades over time. I can think of no solution (maybe a coat of sealant???) other than to buy another one. In any case, i LOVE all my Shire Post coins, whether or no.
