  • 1x Shire Iron 1/4p

  • 1x Shire Iron 1p

  • 1x Shire Iron 10p

T

hree solid iron coins from the Shire, struck during a time of great turmoil. The design, metal, and denomination have all changed compared to the versions before Shire Year 1419. The lovely tree that normally graces coins of the Shire has been replaced by a large "S". The Shire Silver Shilling has been replaced by the iron 10p, the Shire Penny for the iron 1p, and the Shire Farthing for the tiny iron 1/4p. The coins are struck in scrap iron. It is unclear if the "S" on each coin stands for Shire, Sackville-Baggins, or Sharkey.

'Who is this Sharkey?' said Merry. 'I heard one of the ruffians speak of him.'
'The biggest ruffian o' the lot, seemingly,' answered  Cotton. 'It was about last harvest, end o' September maybe, that we first heard of him. We've never seen him, but he's up at Bag End; and he's the real Chief now, I guess. All the ruffians do what he says; and what he says is mostly  hack, burn, and ruin; and now it s come to killing. There's no longer even any bad sense in it. They cut down trees and let 'em lie, they burn houses and build no more.

Scouring of the Shire Iron Coins a sad memory

Sad memory of a horrible event. That is what numismatic is, the hard evidence of awful times. Nicely done.

Coins of a dark time in the Shire, brought to life!

These coins are exactly the type of coins that I would expect from a destructive, tyrannical regime in a fantasy world. SPM takes great care in pulling off the look of what such coins would take when used under such conditions.

Each order comes packed with a handwritten envelope sealed with wax straight from Shire Post Mint! Unless changed, we will hand write the name of the person listed in the Shipping Address.

If ordering a gift or if you'd like to customize your handwritten name, please include the recipient's name in the Personalization Options field as you complete your order.

Shire Post Mint coins are struck one at a time in West Fork, Arkansas, USA using solid metals, hand-engraved designs, antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. For antiqued coins, the coloring/patina process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science so coins will vary slightly. Our unique packaging includes a description of each coin and translations if applicable.
