2024 Total Solar Eclipse Commemorative Coin - Copper and Brass
Commemorate the Total Solar Eclipse of 2024!
This visually contrasting bi-metal coin commemorates the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse that spans North America. One side features a face of Earth's only moon which is a geographically (technically selenographically) correct 136,794,240:1 scale design of the surface texture of its near side in copper, with the surrounding solar corona struck in brass.
The reverse of the coin shows the path of the Moon which will completely block the Sun in the sky across North America during the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse. The coin is inscribed with the event and date. Totality will last up to ~4 minutes and 28 seconds depending on the viewer’s location within this path.
- The first 1000 coins will be stamped with a serialized number. First come first serve! Requests for specific serial numbers cannot be accommodated.
- Bi-metallic coin (inner core is struck in solid copper, outer ring is struck in solid brass)

- 1.26" inch (32.1 mm) diameter coin weighs 21.5 grams

Bi-metallic Coin Minting
An external brass ring is created with a punch press and two different diameters of steel die. The center hole gets machined to fit the inner copper core. Once the core is in place the two blanks are struck simultaneously. This effectively locks them together through deformation, ensuring the two metals stay in place. This technically demanding form of striking dates back to the 17th century.

Our Process
Shire Post Mint coins are struck one at a time in West Fork, Arkansas, USA using solid metals, hand-engraved designs, antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. For antiqued coins, the coloring/patina process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science so coins will vary slightly. Our unique packaging includes a description of each coin and translations if applicable.
