Scorpio, the eighth sign in the Zodiac, is associated with the constellation Scorpius, the scorpion that straddles the Milky Way. Many of the myths that this constellation is identified with are about the death of Orion, the giant huntsman of Greek mythology. The story goes that Orion, boasting of his prowess and skill as a great hunter, proclaimed that he would kill every animal on the Earth. This angered a goddess, so she sent a scorpion to sting and kill Orion. Some of the stories say that the goddess was Gaia, mother of Titans and personification of Earth itself. Other versions of the story say it was Artemis, the goddess of hunt and wilderness and her mother Leto. In both versions, Zeus immortalized the fierce scorpion and the great hunter as constellations to commemorate their epic battle.
People born from October 24th-November 21st are considered to have Scorpio as their ‘Sun sign’ - the part of an astrological chart that determines ego, identity, the character one plays in life.
The sign of Scorpio is ruled by the planets Mars and Pluto, as well as the element of water. Those with this Sun sign are often thought of as especially intuitive, authentic and deep individuals!
