Silver Coin - Helm of Awe - .999 Fine Silver - Aegishjalmur - Warrior's Stave Viking Coinage

$45.00

"I found no power a match for my own."

The Warrior's Stave is known by many names: The Helm of Awe... The Warrior's Helm... and even the Helm of Terror. In Icelandic, it is referred to as Ægishjálmur or aegishjalmur.

  • solid 99.9% fine silver
  • 1.25" (3.2 cm) diameter
  • 12 grams, 1/8" thick
  • also available as a coin

There is ancient history to the stave, wherein the Fáfnismál, one of the poems in the Poetic Edda, the havoc-wreaking dragon Fafnir attributes much of his apparent invincibility to his use of the Helm of Awe:

The Helm of Awe, I wore before the sons of men, In defense of my treasure; Amongst all, I alone was strong, I thought to myself, For I found no power a match for my own.

This interpretation is confirmed by a spell called “There is a Simple Helm of Awe Working” in the collection of Icelandic folktales collected by the great Jón Árnason in the nineteenth century. The spell reads:

Make a helm of awe in lead, press the lead sign between the eyebrows, and speak the formula:
Ægishjálm er ég ber
milli brúna mér!
I bear the helm of awe
between my brows!

If you are daring enough to try, we hope that this spell will help you press through challenges and cross into newer horizons.

Incredible Piece, Amazing Service!

I was hoping to get the Helm of Awe coin on a metal chain, as opposed to leather. After poking around a bit, I figured out how! Though, I was still a little unsure, so I left a note in my order. Someone from Shire Post Mint got back to me fairly quickly to confirm I'd done everything correctly!

Now, I wear it almost every day. I absolutely love it!

Great products, and a really reasonable price

These are a decent weight -- not so thick as to be a dead weight, but also not so thin you might bend it. Just right! High-quality workmanship at a decent price point: I am giving these as stocking-stuffers this year.

Nice piece with Norse design

I love the textured finish of these Helm of Awe coins. It really comes out well in silver.
