Sagittarius, the ninth sign in the Zodiac, is named with the Latin word for “archer”. The Babylonians identified Sagittarius as the war god Nergal, a centaur-like creature armed with bow and arrow. In Greek mythology, Sagittarius is associated with Chiron, the noble and wise centaur, and teacher to many great Greek heroes such as Jason, Achilles, and Heracles.
People born from November 22nd-December 21st are considered to have Sagittarius as their ‘Sun sign’ - the part of an astrological chart that determines ego, identity, the character one plays in life. ‘Moon sign’ relates to the subconscious, intuition, inner world, and emotional self.
The sign of Sagittarius is ruled by the planet Jupiter and the element of fire. Those with this Sun sign are often thought of as especially independent and adventurous individuals with great senses of humor. Those with a Sagittarius Moon are often thought of as optimistic individuals with a great hunger for knowledge.
